Hello!
I’m so glad you’re here! My name is Betty Wright. I am a DONA International trained doula serving the Greater Sacramento area. Bringing a new person into this world is an incredibly profound act. And while it is an everyday event, millions of times over, birth is deeply personal and unique to each person. The antepartum period is one of enormous change and --let’s face it-- our society has some gaps in providing support for families. A doula steps in to fill those gaps and serves as a trusted source of information and unbiased support for your decisions.
My goal as your doula is to meet you and your family where you are in this process and together create a positive birth and postpartum experience centered around your needs. I believe that the path to a positive birth starts with information and education. Learning about the physiological birth process is empowering and can help you make decisions in the process that come from a place of confidence. From there we can develop an individualized support plan for you and your family to ensure that you are informed and comfortable throughout this journey. How you choose to birth is a profoundly personal decision and there are many paths to a positive birth. I want to give you the information and support you need to put your mind at ease so that you can enjoy this special time as much as possible. I provide support not only to the birthing person but also to their birth partner and can provide educational resources for young siblings.
Before becoming a parent I had no idea what a complex undertaking it would be (you never know what you don’t know!) So many decisions during pregnancy seemed overwhelming and I went into labor with my first child largely uninformed on the physiological birth process. Bringing home my precious newborn to our little apartment was even more bewildering, and meeting the ever changing needs of our sweet (and demanding) baby proved exhausting! I sat in my apartment thinking, There must be someone who knows how to do this! I dove into the Facebook mom groups only to be disappointed by conflicting opinions, internet bickering, and endless mom-shaming. I started reading books on childbirth and early parenthood and I got a little obsessed with podcasts and blogs by doulas, midwives, and OBs. As more and more of my friends became pregnant I found that I loved supporting them, sharing resources, and helping them plan for postpartum life.
In 2018 I completed DONA International certified training through Sierra Childbirth Institute. Since then I have been supporting families as they grow and change. Through this work I have deepened my passion for reproductive justice and making birth spaces accessible to all birthing people. I have trained in birth trauma, movement for comfort in labor, postpartum life skills and attended a Spinning Babies® workshop. I am passionate about the work of supporting birthing people and families in this precious time of transition and growth.
Supporting community is important to me. A portion of all fees will be donated to SisterSong to advance the cause of reproductive justice. Further, I commit to providing a number of pro-bono birth packages per calendar year.
Just a bit more about me- I live in Roseville, CA with my high school sweetheart and our two beautiful children. I love exploring the natural beauty of Northern California, cooking, filling my house with plants, and binge watching bad TV with my dog, Porter.
Do you have more questions? I'll be happy to answer them! Let's set up a time to talk.
